Terms of Use
Last updated: November 3, 2026
The short version. Your notes are yours. Use BrainFlo lawfully, keep your own backups, and buy Pro once through the App Store under Apple’s terms.
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of BrainFlo (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using BrainFlo for iPhone, iPad or Mac (“the app”) you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
The app is licensed to you through Apple’s App Store. Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies, and these terms add to it. If the two conflict, Apple’s agreement wins.
2. The app
BrainFlo is a personal notebook that links your notes into a knowledge graph, with search by meaning and AI that runs on your device. Your library is stored on your devices and, when you’re signed in to iCloud, syncs through your own iCloud account. Features may change between versions.
3. Free use and BrainFlo Pro
- Free. BrainFlo is free to download and use for up to 100 notes.
- BrainFlo Pro adds unlimited notes, the Synapse Engine, the Whiteboard, Smart Folders (on Mac) and Analytics. It’s a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The price is shown in the app before you buy.
- One purchase, all your devices. Pro unlocks on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. Use Restore Purchases on a new device.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its refund policy. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If Pro is refunded or otherwise removed, your notes stay yours. You can still read, search and export everything; Pro features lock again, and you can’t add notes past the free limit.
4. Your content
Everything you create or import in BrainFlo belongs to you. We don’t receive it, claim any rights to it or review it. You’re responsible for your content and for having the right to use anything you import.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the app to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights, and not to copy, resell, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.
6. Backups
iCloud sync isn’t a backup: deleting a note on one device deletes it everywhere. Export your library regularly (Markdown or JSON) and keep your devices backed up. We can’t recover data for you because we never have a copy.
7. AI features
AI-generated summaries, expansions and insights can be wrong or incomplete. Check them before you rely on them, especially for medical, legal, financial or other important decisions. Optional downloadable models are open-source models made by third parties (such as Meta, Alibaba, Google, Microsoft and Mistral AI), provided under their own licenses and downloaded from Hugging Face.
8. Third-party services
Some features rely on services we don’t control, including Apple iCloud, the App Store, Hugging Face, and any email provider you connect. Their own terms apply, and we aren’t responsible for their availability or practices.
9. Our rights
The app, its design, code, name and logo belong to us and are protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app; they don’t transfer ownership.
10. Disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose or that it will be error-free or uninterrupted.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim.
12. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be waived, including the Australian Consumer Law, EU and UK consumer law, and Canadian provincial consumer protection laws. Where these terms conflict with such laws, the laws apply.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop at any time by deleting the app. We may end your license if you seriously break these terms. Sections 4, 9, 10 and 11 continue after these terms end.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and of the province in which we are based, except where your local consumer law requires otherwise. Before starting any legal claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.
15. Changes
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date above and note significant changes in the app’s release notes. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
